i just installed only one driver from my motherboard driver disc and it was for the ethernet. the other drivers were SMBus, SW (nvidia storage), and mediashield. im hesitant to install these because i hear mixed reviews about how they cause slowdown and i just went through an aggravating process to get my computer up to its proper speed.
so what do you know? should i install any of those other drivers? are they necessary?
If you're running vista and no conflicts appear in the device manager, you should be good to go. Older versions of windows won't find all your board devices, and you'll need to install them all off the cd.
You should always install chipset drivers off the disk/via download site if you are using XP. Vista will usually do all that for you but sometimes not. Mediashield comes to mind, it was required to use a SATA dvd-drive on my wifes MSI 750i when I built her machine a few months ago, I had to go out and get a IDE drive because Windows install would BSOD after the initial load into windows and corrupt the install. After using the IDE drive to install Vista everything was fine, could install the chipset drivers, then swaped in the SATA drive and all was good.
