Hola!

Straight to the point, I've been having problems with running some games. For example, the latest problem had come from GTA 4. My PC Specs are:

Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 @ 2400 MHz
Physical Memory: 3072 MB
Video Card: Nvidea GeForce 9600 GS
Hard Drive: 750GB
Power: Corsair 650w

About 2 or 3 games have had the same problem where, after 20-30 minutes, my whole PC crashes with only the sound looping in the background. Weird thing is, there is no consistency. For example, i was able to run Crysis without crashing once but a game like Assassin's creed, i can not play for more than 15 minutes.

I had purchased the new power supply few months ago, believing that would be the solution to my problem, which it wasn't. I gave up until today, i had noticed my temperatures are pretty high. According to SpeedFan, all 4 cores are on fire (55C Max), GPU is on fire (62C) and Temp 1 (tick), Temp 2 (Fire), Temp 3 (Low). Today is a pretty hot day so I'm not sure if these are normal. Today is around 26°C.

Sorry if i posted in the wrong section. I just thought maybe this could finally be the solution to my problem and any advice would be great.

Thanks

Are you sure you don't have a 9600GT. "Black Screen of Death" has only been reported with Nvidia reference design 9600GT. Doesn't matter what brand, there are reports of EVGA, MSI, Asus, BFG, PNY having this problem. I had 2 XFX 9600GT(reference design) that had that problem.

According to PC Wizard, its 9600 GS. However, i think i might have this problem...

Is there a link explaining this "black screen of death" thing? Also, did you ever fix the problem or did you just replace them?

Thanks for the help btw

Can't edit my post -_-

Was just about to say that i didn't need reference to the black screen of death since i used google to find some threads about it :P.

Just wondering how you fixed your problem?

You can google "9600GT Black Screen" and it'll get you all the hits you want.

Here is the main Nvidia thread: http://forums.nvidia.com/index.php [...] 60826&st=0

And the possible fix from TechpowerUP! : http://forums.techpowerup.com/showthread.php?t=75474

If you are experiencing this, best option is to just get another video card. Perfect reason for an update.

especially since the 9600GS isn't exactly powerful

Bla! Thanks a lot. I've had this problem for a while and never found any solutions because i was searching for 9600 GS. I was hoping to find a solution which only needed me to install something, etc. lol

Not sure if i got any money for a graphics card lol. I've spent £700 on this and i had to spend an extra £80 for the power supply. Might be able to find £80 somewhere however. Any recommendations ? :P

I rma both cards with XFX, but they said they did testing and it was fine, so they just shipped it backed to me.

I ended up just buying HD4850s as replacedments.
