Where are the reviews of 4850 1GB? They are available from few days already and I cant find a single review
Does anyone have such card, can he post some results (although they wont be very helpful as what I need is direct comparison with 4850 512MB on high res like 1920 or 2560)
I dont think so, there is always need of more Video memory and many occasions proven that more than 512 RAM is helping a lot. I don't even need to mention that 2560x1600 resolution is extremely high and if you try to use 4x AA and 8xAF Video memory of more than 512 is a must
I'm not sold on 1gb automatically being better at the higher resolution/settings. Just look at the previews of the 4870x2. It was pretty much the same speed as 4870 crossfired even though it has extra GDDR5 memory.

From what I remember 4870x2 was most of the times faster than 4870 CF, in cases even with 15-20%. Now that could be due to better scaling but I think the memory plays here.
But then again that was also an engineering sample in every case and while it wasn't much the scaling was usually better by a little. It could still get better.
I don't remember seeing the x2 15-20% faster than the CF solution. You'll have to link it. In fact, I remember one review where the x2 was usually 1-2 fps behind the X2.
^ I agree....the benchmarks i have seen for the x2 show it being as near as you can get identical to the 4870CF. I remember thinking that it just edged it on most games, but the difference was so small that it wasn't significant.
In any case, you were talking about the 4850 which is crippled by the ddr3 memory. The 4850 simply doesnt have the bandwidth to handle very high resolution with high levels of AA + AF. In those cases where more frame buffer might help, you would already be severely crippled by lack of bandwidth.
1 gig of memory in the 4870 might start to see some difference. But even in this card i suspect it would be a case of the the 512mb version getting 18fps @ 2560 with AA+AF, and the 1gig version getting 24fps.
Take a look at the benchmarks and you will still see how the 9800gx2 with 512mb beats the gtx280 in almost all games and settings. The only game that does seem to need the extra memory is crysis (at high res with some filters). However neither card is playable with at settings.
If you ask me save your money, i think that crysis is still a year or so ahead of the pack, and by the time games really do need the extra memory, then the 4850 will be considered a little slow anyhow.
We all speculate and we all cant know for sure, thats why I want to see benchmarks and they are misteriously missing. Thats my point. Why the sites dont make a review?

Because they were too busy reminiscing about all the great video cards Nvidia has produced... bleh... boring.... I don't read this site to get a history lesson. I LIVED IT... i friggen had a Riva TNT, I don't need a hisotry lesson about it.... I want BENCHMARKS!!!!!!
I want pancakes... with some free hardware on the side... and benchmarks on the napkins... that would be great... pancakes... new hardware... and benchmarks lol
