Ok, to make a long and painful story somewhat shorter I realized I needed a new graphic card to be able to play warhammer online. My old Radeon 9200 SE didnt make it.
So, as Im on a budget I invested in a Sapphire Radeon HD 3650 512 mg AGP. Not the best choice I realize now, but...anyway. The problems started for real when I tried to install it.
After lots of trial and error it seems I can boot up the computer with the new card, but only if my mouse and keyboard are unplugged.
My first thought was that it was was PSU that couldnt handle it. I did some reading and realized that the Q-tec PSU 400W I have in the comp is pretty horrible.
But then, when I switched back to my old graphic card - the problems where exactly the same. If I unplug the mouse and keyboard the comp boots and I get a picture. But with my mouse and keyboard pluged in only the fans of the comp start, I get no "startup beep" and the screen stays black.
Today I bought a 400W FSP ATX-400PNF and took out my old Q-tec. But to my horror the problem stays the same! I can only boot up the comp without mouse and keyboard (much good that does me).
I have a few year old Intel P4 3,0, 2 gigs ram and an MSI motherboard.
I dont think this is a power thing. If it where mine, I would be checking to make sure everything is good and tight. Unplug cables, vidcard and replug. If it continues, I would reload the drivers for the vidcard. Still there? I would do a restore to the point where the card was put in the first time. Still there? I would do a disk check for errors... I would guess, you will not get pass the first two.
I unplugged the cables and the vidcard, both old and new, several times. As for the rest...it's a little hard to do any of it as my comp doesnt start with either mouse or keyboard plugged in.
But thanks for the input, I need any help I can get
