External HD - help me find the best choice

Hi guys

I am in need of another external HD. Currently I have a WD My Book Essential Edition 250GB, and it is working fine. But I am open to new brands, which is why I need your experience.

I have looked at WD My Passport Essential 500GB, and it seems reasonable. Do you have any experience with this model, or are there any other models that I shoud look at?

Regarding disc space, then 500 GB is more than enough.

Any input/help will be greatly appreciated.

Why not build your own? That way you can choose any size/brand you want. There are instructions on the web on building them, as well as recommended parts. That way, if either the HD or the case fails, you only have to replace one component.

Uhh, I think buying one would be a lot easier. And the thing is, I'm not even sure what brand to choose.
