Hi, i just bought a q9550 from micro center for 160$. I would like to share my experience with you folks. First of all, i am very impressed by this chip, the VID for this chip is 1.2500 @ stock 2.83ghz settings. I managed to bring it down to 1.11V @ clock speed of 3.4ghz, this is with prime 95 and orthos 8+hrs stable. The temps are wonderful too, my old e5200 Dual core managed 60C under prime 95 with 100% load, this new processor however does not break the 50C mark, plus 12mb cache is huge =]

very impressed =]

intelburnbest v2.3 10 mins = hours of prime.
use maximum ram settings for intelburntest.
this what the pros r using now :D
with ur voltage at 1.1 now. u can go up to 3.8 or 4.0ghz easily depending on ur cooler

Nice freezed1, what motherboard and memory are you running?

http://i130.photobucket.com/albums/p250/4ryan6/Q9550at383.jpg

The High temps shown in Core Temp, were after running Prime95 before running 3DM06, as you can see in CPU-Z my voltage is much higher than yours.

Hi, i am using an EVGA 780i motherboard, the memory i have is very old...maybe 2+yrs....its 2gb g.skill micron d9 version running @ 1010 mhz with 5-5-5-15 timings and 2.1 volts (will buy some 4gb sticks soon). I am running all this with a 700W thermaltake power supply, and a BFG gtx 285. below is my 24/7 oc and 3d mark 06 results.

hope you enjoy

thx for feedback

hey man how u get ur vid at 1.11v @ 3.4 ghz , is this reported by cpuz?
or maybe u got lucky with the vid on this chip

Is that stable?

Hi, yes its stable so far, ran prime 95 for 3+hrs, and will leave it running overnight. I am trying to get the highest clocks while staying below stock voltages lol =] hope that made sense

Reply to freezed1

i pretty much doubt its stable at 3.4ghz on 1.1v
i think he should run intelburntest..much better than prime or orthos
also you can bring it up to 3.8ghz no problem with good cooler.

lol yes that 1.11v @ 3.4ghz is reported by cpuz while running prime 95. according to core temp the VID is 1.2500v but thats 2 high and i can easily run it with lower VID and higher clocks =]

Reply to freezed1

core temp displays wrong VIDs. dnt trust it.
also run intelburntest as stated above.

Reply to overshocks

Hi, yeah i am going to leave it on all night and see if it crashes. last prime 95 run was for 3 hrs with the small FFT test selected. =]

wow you were right, burn test is much better......i am running it right now and see what happens, how long should i run it for? any recommendations?

Reply to freezed1

put the "stress level" to "Maximum"
i personally run it "5 runs" at a time to test when im overclocking.
also make sure its version 2.3
the temps might be higher than prime..small fft
also you need to learn how to find errors , by looking at the codes that appear after each run, ALL CODES MUST MUST EVERY RUN which means stable overclock.
if they dnt match, its not stable

Hi, i just ran the Intel burn test. I set it to maximum and ran it 10 times. below is SS, the core voltage according to CPU-Z is 1.19- 1.20V the processor is running at 3.57ghz now. BTW my temps are only 1C - 2C higher than running prime 95 small FFT, i am using a custom made water cooling setup.

Not bad on the 3DM06 that GTX 285 does a good job, is it OCd?

Your CPU score will increase as you raise your OC.

I noticed you said you were after the highest OC on the lowest voltage, but are you eventually going to go for the highest OC you can run with your WCing rig?

Hi, yes my card is factory overclocked, i believe its the bfg oc2 edition. I used to run an e5200 between 3.7 ghz and 4.0 ghz, i think the advantage is minimal going from 3.7 to 4.0, so i might just keep this chip clocked at 3.6ghz ( just ran 20 loops of Intel burn test with maximum settings, they all passed), it is giving me a decent 3dmark06 score of 19141. Might do a bench run @ 4.0ghz but will not use that as a 24/7 setting. :p

Reply to freezed1

I've had mine at 4G but Prime95 gets a little too hot for me to be comfortable running it like that 24/7, I'm air cooling and it took a 1.45vcore to get stable at 4G, but my temps in P95 were only 2C away from the thermal threshold of the Q9550.

Reply to 4ryan6

Hi, wow abt the temps, i think the stepping makes a huge difference. I have a custom water cooling kit and my temps are as follows

Prime 95 small FFT 100% load = ~ 51C
Intel burn test "Maximum" setting = ~ 52C (with 20 loops)

Some one told me to use the intel burn test rather than prime 95 and they were right. On prime 95 my pc ran stably for 3+hrs, but with intel burn it failed in 10 seconds, i had to adjust the voltages for it to become stable.

:P

I agree he definitely has a good chip if he can get where he is on that low of a voltage, he should easily hit 4G nowhere near the voltage I had to use, that will keep him much cooler.

Well freezed1, its going to be interesting to see your OCing progress, you definitely have my attention.

Hi, this is what i got, i ran intel burn test at maximum settings for 15 and 20 loops, temps max were at 55C. CPU was clocked at 3845mhz, and CPU-Z core voltage @ 1.25V and 1.20V during the intel burn test.

That custom water cooling is working great for you man, do you have any Pics?

You're going to be able to run over 4G with ease, thats awesome!!!

Reply to 4ryan6

Hi, here are the pics, This PC is generally used for gaming/ MAT LAB/ mathematica :p, the cooling i use is XSPC Rx-360 radiator with 3 x delta fans running at 7v, a danger den d5 fixed speed pump, and finally a swiftech gtz water block. Also i just use distilled water + Solution. My NB has a 60mm x 38mm fan on it, the temps were really high on the NB but with this new fan the temps dropped 20-25C on low 7v fan setting. The fan is nidec ultra 50cfm, 56 decibels. The case is cooler master HAF 932.

I gotta say my favorite part in that system is the ram fan.

Wich one is that?

hi, the ram cooler is OCZ XTC, i bought it from eBay for around 7.00 $. It does a good job of cooling the memory. Corsair also makes a memory cooler which looks real nice but doesn't come with the leds.

My new 3dmark score. its just shy of 20K but i have surpassed it on a test run by increasing my vid card clocks. Its funny 3dmark says i have a pentium 3 !!!! lol....
