Hello, been using tom's hardware for years in research about computer parts. But this is my first post, i got a question about upgrading my cpu, and this is kind of a noob question but i dont consider myself one :).

Anyway, i have an Abit KN9 NF4 Ultra motherboard which is about 2 years old. I currently have a AMD 64X2 AM2 3800+ in it, which is 2 ghz. Far Cry 2 is comin out and I recently got some money that could be used towards upgrading my computer. My question is will older motherboards like this one be compatible with a new AMD 64 X2 6000+, also an AM2 socket. I understand that BIOS updates may make such a combination work, but when i looked at their BIOS updates, nothing was really mentioned about support for newer processors except AMD BE processors which I dont know what those are (although the last bios update was late 2007). I also realize I may want to upgrade my power supply especially if I plan on getting a newer vid card. I have 3 GB of ram, 750 GB of HD space and a DVD-RW drive. It just seems very economical to upgrade only my CPU and vid card.

So my question is, is there typically limitations on upgrading CPU's when it comes to motherboards, or is it simply my AM2 socket motherboard will run any AM2 CPU speed.
