I recently re-applied thermal paste to my CPU in order to remedy a heat issue and after taking a look at Core Temp, it may or not be helping. The screenshot below is after playing World of Warcraft for a little bit:

Any thoughts? I am not above the idea of adding something radical to my case, like an air conditioner or a glacier. :p

Take off 5 degrees from each core because:

http://img214.imageshack.us/img214/8923/inteldtssheetaa7.th.png

and don't worry about your core temps it's the Tcase temp that really matters. Core temp doesn't show Tcase for whatever reason but hwmonitor does. Hwmonitor uses a 105 Tjunction so take off the 5 degrees from whatever Hwmonitor is giving you for case temp. Don't let the case temp exceed 71.4 celcius after taking the Tjunction adjustment into account when using hwmonitor.

And perhaps it's still a bit warm because it hasn't had a chance to settle? I can't remember how the Arctic Silver peeps put it, just that it would require a breaking-in period.

AS5 apparently requires a cure cycle, which if you power your system down daily, will take approximately 2 weeks. Not sure how much validity there is to this, but it is what they recommend. Try RealTemp for monitoring your temperatures, it appears to be more accurate than most.

i'm glad i found this thread cause i live in the tropics ( Barbados in the Caribbean) and i just bought an intel q9550 with an asus p5kpl-cm. I would have to get that real temp cause i would like a second opinion ...........i'm using currently asus software plan to overclock in the future the temps are idle 45C loads 65C is that ok temps i only had the PC for a week which i put up myself ...........i would install real temp and get back to u with a pic of the numbers....

Wow, I just tried Real Temp 2.70 and it shows my machine as being waaaay cooler than CoreTemp. CoreTemp was showing temps approaching 70C while just reading this thread whereas Real Temp shows a max temp of 57C.

Maybe I don't have anything to worry about after all! :D

Your temp guide should be stickied at the top of the CPU section ... where most of the threads about overheating etc are actually posted.

It is certainly essential reading.

Errr... the OP has QX6700.

QX6700: Tcase Max 65c, Stepping B3, TDP 130W, Idle 24W

-Tcase/Tjunction-
--65--/--70--70--70--70-- Hot
--60--/--65--65--65--65-- Warm
--55--/--60--60--60--60-- Safe
--25--/--30--30--30--30-- Cool

Extreme Processor QX6700

I'd say keep an eye on the Tcase temp. And for the vcore (Vid=1.450), that's a bit high for 3.2ghz for my taste, but then not sure how different the EE is to a reg Q6600 G0.
