Very similar to a previous post I made. However, there are a few changes.

I am placing this order tonight at midnight most likely. Just waiting on some funds to show up in my bank account.

At first, I thought I could get a couple of these components cheaper from other sites. Now it appears that everything is coming from Newegg.com

Look it over and tell me what you think.

Using an old video card, monitor, etc, until I get some more money. However, this will get my new PC up and running.

I decided to go with this 1000W PSU instead of a 1200W. I think this will be plenty of power for $100 less. Also, I went for the WD Hard Drive with 2 of the 320Gb Platters instead of a single 250Gb platter.

What do you guys think?

PS - Finished build will have a second DVD-ROM, several more Hard Drives, dual HD4870's, 24" Widescreen LCD Monitor, etc, etc...

Get a nice heatsink and you're set! Nice build

Well, if by "several" more, you actually do mean seven hard drives, the PSU calculator shows 732W, so 1000W does give a nice margin. Otherwise, that system with a couple of crossfired HD4870s and 4 hard drives shows 641W, so an 800W PSU should be sufficient.

WTF are you going to use a 1000w PSU for?! Even a 550 is an overkill for this setup.

PS- Getting 64-bit vista is pointless for just 4gb RAM.

The Processor is a retail box. That means it comes with the standard heatsink on it already, correct?

I'm not planning on Overclocking this beast until I get the build completed...

I understand that I will need to better cool the CPU before I overclock it. But I should be okay with these parts until then, yes?

PS - This single new egg order is going to cost me $1248.59! That includes shipping. NOT BAD!

PPS - Later I will be adding about $1500 - $1750 worth of other parts. Dual HD4870's, drives, LCD monitor etc.

Why is it pointless?

would it be better to buy a corsair 1000w psu? this one http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6817139007

whats the best psu for powering a trifire setup with a 4870x2 and a 4870??

Reply to moomoopro

ya it's like $50 more but i would have gone w/ a Corsair it would still be under $1300 :p

Eventually this PC is going to have a lot more gear in it. I just need to allow my bank account to recover. Then I will start ordering... More Hard Drives, Dual HD4870's, Ageia PhysX Card, etc, etc...

On top of that I am going to Overclock it when I can afford some more cooling supplies.

As for the Vista 64-Bit... I plan on doubling the ram asap. And I don't see why I would get the 32-Bit version of Vista if it's running on a Quad Core.
