I decided to try to build my first computer every, and I'm having some trouble. I can't even get the bare-bones system to power on. All that I have connected is the mobo, CPU, PSU, and power button. When i try to turn it on, the CPU and PSU fan turn on for a SPLIT second then its dead. I have to disconnect the PSU, and when i try it again, same thing, fans turn on for a split second then its quiet. (The first time i tried it i had the fans plugged in and the LED's on them turned on for a sec).
Here's what I'm running:
Gigabyte p35-ds3l
Pentium 4 e8400
Corsair 520HX power supply
Antec 900 case
I tried testing the PSU to see if it was dead, did the green/black jumper thing, and same result: fan turns on for a sec then off completely.
I don't know if its a DOA, or which part specifically is DOA if anything. Any advice is greatly appreciated!
It sounds like you may have a grounding issue to me.
Make sure no part of the back of your motherboard is actually touching any metal from your case. I know its kind of a silly thing to mention to some people, but as this is your first time build I can see this being overlooked, so are you using the motherboard standoffs that would have come with your case?
