It has been a while since I've done a system build (or since I've posted on the forum) so sorry for sounding newbie.

As the title suggests, I'm looking for a mobo to pair with the Q6600. I am not a gamer, but intensive multi-tasking and audio/video encodoing, so I don't need a mobo with all the bells and whistles (i.e. the board doesn't need to have crazy GPU options). I will do some low to moderate overclocking with an aftermarket heatsink and fan. I value stability and quiet! Ok... with those qualifications, what would you recommend?

Thanks in advance!

thanks... i took a look at what you have in your sig (asus p5q pro) and downgraded mine to the p5q se/r. now again, considering a modest overclock, any memory recommendations?

there's no big difference in speed with overclocking. dont do that :D there is a saying, Hurrying is devils work :D for motherboard, use p35, for ram, use ddr2-800, it is enough.

are you serious? 2.4 ghz compared to 3+ghz = BIG DIFFERENCE.

here is a link showing stock 2.4 ghz vs 3.06 ghz (overclocked)

i can attest to what badtrip said. the moment i taste 3ghz with my q6600, theres no going back. ignore the oc skeptics. btw, dont forget to get a 3rd party cpu hsf. stock coolers make me sick.

oh and for memory

ddr2-800 will be sufficient since the q6600 has heating problems after 3.6 ghz. here is some cheap but reliable memory:

for a mobo, i suggest a p45. they have been tested to work at 500 fsb and graphics isnt a major criteria, the 1 x16 pci-e lane will be sufficient. i have an asus p5q deluxe with my q6600 working at 3.0 ghz (333x9) with 1.28125 V in bios, 1.272 in cpu-z after vdroop.

My friend has his Q9550 at 3.72GHZ. That's a 32% speed boost - hardly "no big difference." It's definitely noticeable too - I don't think you have a clue what you're talking about here.

Oh, and a decent P45 board should be great for what you're looking for.
