What happens when you manually select the SCART instead of letting pin 8
automatically change over for you?

vcr to tv are one way only scarts ?
i suspect that tv is feeding out to vcr/sky+ and thats being refed
back when you playback.

Thanks but it does not make any differenve what I do now is to select a
channel on my tv hih has no sound then go to sky and view my recorded
programs it works fine but not the real answer though
