cos only these above brands are available at my place.

i want to know which of the two has a better cooler ?or any other difference?

You would need to link us to the specific cards you are looking at buying before we could answer that.

@mactronix thanks for the reply, and i m sorry i did not include the links before

i m based in india and these are the cards available to me

gecube HD 4850

palit HD 4850

http://techshop.in/store/product_i [...] ts_id=2366

zotac 9800 GTX+

http://www.lynx-india.com/index.php?productID=2244

even though the prices mentioned here are little high for hd 4850 ...street prices are lesser for them

but still 9800 gtx+ is near about the same price or few bucks more for me,so it wise to go for 9800 gtx+ ?

Im sorry but for some reason the first two links dont seem to work ?
I have done some looking around and will give you some buying advice based on what i have found and what i know.
Palit and indeed Gecube make more than one version of these and indeed most of the different cards they produce. Usually the first cards released will be very similar as ATI/Nvidia don't let the overclocked cards out until a few weeks after the first launch.
I personally recommend you go with a 4850 and not a 9800GTX+ . They perform nearly the same but i favour the extra features of the ATI card like the HD decoding and support for DX10.1.
Things to look out for are. A dual slot cooler(this means it will need two cards worth of space to fit) so you will use two slot spaces to fit it in the case. like this http://www.ebuyer.com/product/148280 It pushes the hot air out the back of the case through the grille on the top of the card which is better for your system and these coolers are better at cooling the card as well.
Other things to look for are the amount of RAM 512 is plenty but if you can get one with 1GB for similar money then its worth it.
Clock speed should be about 625 for a standard card and Palit do a sonic version which is clocked at 685. This is the core or engine clock and is the main processor speed. so any thing above this will be good.
Memory speed is about 2000 for a standard card and again anything with a higher number is better. This is the DDR (Double Data Rate) figure and some times you will see a number about half of this which is the actual memory rate. The DDR speed is the one that matters as this is the actual speed the card will run at.
The Ramdac will be 400
I hope this helps and im sorry i cant see the actual cards which would have made it a lot more simple.
Any more questions please feel free to ask.

thanks once again for taking time and writing to me and having patience to clear me everything.i m sorry that those links did not work,it seems like the site is down as the links are not working for me either.

but i got the link from gecube's website -

gecube HD 4850

http://www.gecube.com/products-det [...] cification

palit hd 4850

http://www.palit.biz/main/vgapro.php?id=698

as u talked about dual slot cooler, none of the above two has a dual slot cooler.they have standard reference cooler.which infact worries me as 4850 is known to be hot (though fan tweak is available and working!). but i still wanted to go for something with a better cooler.

the ebuyer link did not open for me,so please send me another link to have a better idea of what u are talking about.

and u were right about palit having a sonic model which seems to have a double slot cooler and its pre- OCed to 685MHz core clock speed.

palit hd 4850 sonic

http://www.palit.biz/main/vgapro.php?id=755

right now sonic variant is not available for me,i came to know that it will be available in a weeks time.

Hopefully this link will work. It describes the dual slot cooler very well. http://www.hisdigital.com/html/pro [...] 5&view=yes

Both the cards you are looking at are basically the same card. The only differance is the sticker on the fan. This is a case of the generic cards i mentioned that are issued before the Overclocked and special editions are released.
If you are not in a hurry i would wait and see what other cards are released, say a couple of weeks. The cooler on the Palit Sonic is a decent one and should keep the card nicley cooler than the standard set up.
You will need to decide if the extra money will be worth it. I am clueless about your currancy im afraid but in pounds. If the card cost £100 without the overclock and better cooler, then £120/£130 would be about the limit of the differance it would be worth, with the cooler and Overclock.
The thing with overclocked cards is that, while you can in most cases buy a standard card and get just as good an Overclock yourself. You dont get the better cooler and the Overclock is Gauranteed on a card that has a factory Overclock and not on a standard card. You could get a card and Overclock it yourself and acctually get worse performance.
The Palit sonic also states it wants a 500 Watt PSU. Your corsair is a very good PSU though and i think it will be ok.
I will check this and let you know.

I cant find any official reviews on the Sonic card so i wouldnt just assume your PSU will run it. You need a 8 pin connector and i dont know if your PSU has one or not. Palit have done some work on the power cuircuits so it will Overclock better but the down side is it needs more power.

why are those the only brands you're asking about?

somebody posted a link to msi's 4850 and it was pretty impressive :

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6814127370

Or go for the sapphire.

thanks for replying again to itadakimasu and mactronix.

@itadakimasu i wish to buy MSI card but service here of this particular company is so bad that vendors don't keep it.otherwise i would love to go for MSI.

@mactronix now i got a good idea about double slot cooler.and i am planning to buy the card by the end of this month anyway...so i will wait and look for sonic model and how benificial it is and at what cost its av available here.but then do i have to change my PSU too ? i checked it does require 500W PSU and 8-pin power connecter now whats that ? i have no idea about that ??

Ok i think you made a good choice to wait and see. The power connecter looks like this http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.asp [...] 1&doy=11m8 and your PSU has one.
As i said before its a very good power supply and i wouldnt be at all surprised if even though its a 450 watt supply that it would run the card ok.
A graphics card relies on the Amperage of the power supplies +12V Rail or Rails. I know what that is for your PSU but i dont yet know what the requirement is in Amps for the card. Why they dont list it is something many people have asked and we still dont know. I would be very surprised if it wants more than the 33 Amps your psu has on the +12 Volt rail, but you have to be sure with these kinds of thing. I will get back to you if i find out.
