I have DDR400, pc3200 RAM - 4x1gb sticks in dual channel. CPU-Z says:
DRAM Frequency: 160.8mhz
And under SPD when I look at each slot, it says Max Bandwidth: PC3200 (200mhz) and each module has the frequency set to 200mhz.
Is this normal/correct? I am just confused because I thought it was suppossed to be 400mhz memory (DDR400)? Is there a BIOS setting that needs to be adjusted? Thanks!
You current Dram Frequency or memory transfer speed is 321.6MHz, not 400Mhz. (160.8 x 2). The four DIMMS could have caused the BIOS to set the memory speed at less than PC3200, 400MHz. In BIOS, you can try and adjust the memory frequency to 400Mhz manually. Some MB's may have a 200Mhz. setting representing a DDR rate of 400 (DDR=Double Data Rate or 200MHZ. x 2). It is very possible your MB will not run four DIMMs at 400Mhz. You would be limited to two Dimms at PC3200 speed or four Dimms at PC2700 333MHz. speed. List your system specs.
I see the ASUS A8N-SLI Premium. I have that same board running for years with four DIMMs of PC3200 at 400MHz. The OCZ platinum should run at 400MHz in the board. I have 4 gigs of that RAM too, but do not use it the board currently. But, I run 2 x 1 GB of the OCZ PC3200 Platinum at 400MHz. in my ASUS A8N32-SLI Deluxe. So, yes the four DIMMs should run at the advertised PC3200 speed.
Edit: I believe the proper memory frequency setting in the A8N-SLI Premium is 200MHz. That setting would run PC3200 at 400Mhz. (DDR or Double Data Rate like I mentioned earlier).
