Hi,

I'm just in the middle of building a second pc, but I need to buy a new budget processor to fit my Intel 975XBX. I was thinking of getting the E5200, but wasn't sure if my motherboard supported it, as it has the 45nm core, although has only the 800mhz FSB.

If not, are there any recommendations for a compatible processor at a simliar price / performance point. The E2200?

Thanks,

Baz

Already done that, there is no updated BIOS since last year, and it makes no reference that I can see to 45nm processors. All it says is that there is "updated processor support", and this was in the latest BIOS which was September 2007.

I have looked through the Intel site, and the links that you have provided point to the 975XBX2 not the original XBX.

Thanks,

Sorry, i mean one of the links was to the 975XBX2, the other merely says that the chipset supports Core 2 Duo, but i can't see anything specific about the newer 45nm models.

Does anyone know if the small change in architecture alone between the 45nm and 65nm would require a different motherboard? Obviously it already supports the 800Mhz FSB, so that is not an issue.

Don't worry, i've found the answer to my question, and sadly the answer is no. It is not compatible.

So back to my original question, what is the alternative for roughly the same price?

Sorry Barritio, I misread the original post.
