ok so i have a toshiba satellite a215 laptop and it came stock with windows vista home, and i wanted to install windows xp on it so i loaded the disk and deleted the old partition and tried to install the windows xp but it it just hung at 0% and never moved, so retried a couple of times and got the same thing so i said ok and put in a windows vista ultimate cd and tried to install that also but it keeps stopping during the installing also at around 50%.

so im not exactly sure what the problem is, do i have to install the stock os which was vista home or what?

Are these full version legal copies of windows you are installing? If you try to install downloaded versions of windows you can get these problems, this is why I ask this.

You could also have a hard drive on the brinks of going bad. I have an older laptop doing the same thing and I have determined its the hard drive.
