Hello friends. I wan't sure of the right forum for this, but I hope I'm in the right place. I am in the possession of a PS/2 Keyboard I want to use, a laptop with only USB ports, and a USB cable ready for splicing.
Now I notice that USB has 4 wires and PS/2 has 4 wires. Is it possible for me to mod my PS/2 keyboard into a USB keyboard simply by soldering the USB cable onto it?
there are ps2 to usb converters. I have one that takes both ps2 mouse and keyboard and makes it into single usb connector. Connected like that both mouse and keyboard work at the same time using only single usb.
I dont know enough about technology behind it to say anything with certainty, but I think you should get yourself one of these and leave soldering to others.
you can't just solder a USB plug. they use completely different.. well, everything!
The keyboard will have no way of telling the PC that it is a keyboard as it doesn't have the right "bits" inside.
PS/2 has +5v, ground, clock and data
USB has +5v, ground, data+ and data-

The exact information I was looking for. Thanks guys.
