Laptop crash

hey guys.

my cousin has a laptop that he got of craigslist without the original discs and it died on him. It cant boot windows and he has a bunch of music and photos on his harddrive, is there a way that he can pull this stuff off by himself without having like the geek squad do it?

Well, in the first place what's his laptop? There could be a hidden partition where all the restoration software is stored, so you might wanna check that as well.

You can rip out the hard drive and plug it into an external enclosure or pc via sata or ide. depends on the drive.

will he have any issues with the broken OS on the HD when he tries to back everything up on to another computer?
