Allright ive seen a ton of fourms pricing the new 4870x2 at around 500 which imo is a much better price than I expected.

With a price I like that I decided this is the card I should certainly go with for my new build. I have everything ready except for the gpu, so im curious if anyone knows when these new products usually end up on websites like newegg (or even best buy).

Since these cards are expected to sell out pretty quickly with the ddr5 shortage and the lack of good competition.

this card is supposed to be released tommorow (august 12th) so does anyone know what time these websites usually update/add new products ? Im far too excited about my new build, and having to wait a couple weeks for a newer batch of 4870x2s wouldnt be ideal.

(also does anyone know whether the 4870x2 for 500$ is going to be the 2g version ? And if they have adequate cooling compared to the 4870 ?)

Also sorry about all the rambling and ranting above im just far too excited about finally having a pc that isnt crap.

1. websites (like newegg, of course) should have them tomorrow given that ATI has done their part and there isn't some hold up we don't know about

2. there is only one version of the 4870x2...the 2GB version (for now at least)

3. as far as i know there isn't a huge problem with the ddr5 shortage right now (4870s are loaded with it and are flying off the shelves)

PS: im waiting to buy mine immediately when they're released....my 7900gtx is really lagging behind on my 24" nowadays

Ive been gaming on a 2.0ghz pentium 4 with a fx 5600 ultra for the last few years.

As you can imagine im ready to game on something that doesnt belong in an antique shop

5600 ultra....ouch

i used to have a 9600XT and switched to NVIDIA with the 7900gtx. turns out that was a bad choice. the 7 series drivers for 64-bit operating systems totally mess up everything. i couldn't even play games without the system locking up or getting the graphics driver recovery thing in vista. back to ATI for me.

I guess you should check newegg at like 12:30, although they might not have anyone working to add it this late, so maybe you have to wait till morning.

I was looking at the 9800gx2, 260, 280, and the 4870. Would the 4870x2 be the better choice? I'm looking for a super video card with a Penryn processor (either the E8600 or Q9550) but then again I have Nehalem in my head also.

im waiting for the 4870 1gb version but the x2 is a steal at $500. my 7800GTX is killing me in oblivion and even cs:s at 1600x1200 as i cant use AA wich is upsetting. but at least i dont got the 5600 ultra lol. do you think we'll start seing 1gb 4870's anytime soon with the x2's being realesed w/ 1gb per gpu?

Any idea if newegg would have them in the next couple hours or probably not until morning? I've been waiting a month to get this and build my system and I'm slightly paranoid they'll be sold out tomorrow morning.

So, the G280 is within 10% of the 4870x2? I dont think so. Also, theres a premium for being the fastest card. Also, these are starter prices, theyll drop, not 250$ like the still overpriced G280, but Im betting we see these at 500$ in a few weeks or so

Actually... Nvidia loses Price/performance to the 4850 and 4870...

All along your argument was that if people want the best they have to go Nvidia regardless of price. Well now for much less than the 280's initial price you can get a card that's substantially better at almost every game, including Crysis.

Concrum you should just leave the forums, you've lost, Nvidia has lost, we, the consumers, have won.

well i am no fanboi of nvidia but ATI seems to have kiked them where it hurts.
i'm due to build my new system as i am still on a single core 3200+ 64bit and a gainward 7800gs+, so as you can see i need a new system.

q6600 SLACR GO
4870x2
4 gig ddr Corsair
and other bits like psu ,hd's and stuff but the main headache has been GTX280 or is the 4870x2 going to be out in time and also am i going to be able to get one with in a week from friday 15th as i am very impataint and want one now RIGHT NOW!!!! , i hope my supplier can get hold of one or i might just spend £40 on a cheap ass pci-e card for the time being and wait for me to get my hands on one or two or maybe three i just like to be greedy.

for over a week my brain battled GTX280 or 4870x2 i settled for the 4870x2 and knowing my luck they will proberbly be delayed in the UK or it will take weeks to get one due to high demands.......

GO ATI!!!!!!!!! its about time Nvidia got knocked down of thier perch.
msg to Nvidia don't take things for granted anymore as there is allways some one around to kik u up da @$$.
can't wait to see the next gpu from Nvidia things are hot i tells ya hot HOT HOT!!!!!! let the battle commence.
