BSOD on Shutdown

I just tried to shutdown and it has given me a BSOD. During Windows is shutting down message the screen goes black several seconds later but the mouse can move then BSOD occurs. I recreate this everytime i try to shutdown now.

STOP: c000021a Unknown Hard Error
Unknown Hard Error

I have not installed/removed anything recently. Not been on any suspicious websites. I could shutdown perfectly fine yesterday. No hardware alterations recently. Windows run fine with no crash and the error reports don't have anything unusual. Any thoughts on the cause?

Hey there !
Try booting in safe mode, do a start > run > eventvwr > system and check for RED mark errors . What's the most recent one ?
Did you try a windows XP repair ?
Do you have vmware installed ?
