Checking a hard disk...

I have a few drives that I have sitting around and was wondering what is the best way to thoroughly check the disks for errors, bad sectors, etc?

Could someone recommend a good program for doing this? I want to make sure it does a thorough job.

Run CHKDSK from the command prompt.

Typing /r after CHKDSK will have it try to repair any problems it finds.
