Hello, I am setting up a new rig and am COMPLETELY lost on what to look for in a motherboard other than compatibility. I am going to use a quad core. and in the future will want to use SLI. I would like some overclocking capabilities too. Can anyone recommend anything for around the 100$ area?

For $100, you'd have to use on older chipset to get sli; stick with the p45 (or g43 if you want onboard video); for amd the 780g is in your price range. I use asrock, but most folks recommend asus or gigabyte.
