I may be a bit confused and want to be sure I understand this.

I searched the forums and read the crossfire FAQ but was unable to find an answer to my question.

I bought 2 Visiontek HD 4870 video cards at $229.99 ea to crossfire. From what I understand I only need 1 crossfire bridge which newegg has $11.99. However, someone sent me a picture with 2 crossfire bridges connecting their hd 4870's. But then I find plenty of others not showing any of them nor mentioning them.

How many exactly do I need to connect my 2 video cards, if any?

Thanks

It requires 1 crossfire bridge although there have been some reports of performance improvements if both bridges are attached; however said reports are not 100% proven

Needless to say, use 1 or 2 - using 2 won't hurt you by any means.

So you say you've bought two 4870's. You make it seem as if you are about to buy a CrossFire bridge, as I understood it, they should be included in the box with your cards. I would look on VisionTeks site, but I bet that the bridges will be in the box.

Hmm...they might not include them. The newegg pic doesn't show the bridges in the bundle picture...they usually do with the other cards like sapphire or whoever.

This site makes it look as if they do however.

But...VisionTek site says this.
http://www.visiontek.com/products/ [...] _PCIe.html
Box Contents

ATI Radeon™ HD 4870 graphics card
DVI to HDMI adapter
DVI to VGA adapter
Set-up CD
Manuals

I would wait for them to arrive before ordering the bridges. Maybe for some reason they just started excluding them from the box...who knows. What a waste of money that would be to buy an xfire bridge if you get two free ones though. Not like you could use the extras for anything.
