hello guys
,i am frustrated her, i need some help from you guys ,
i finally received my
phenom II 720 Black
along with
zalman 9700 led cooler
and with 2 of 4Gb(2x2) 800Mhz DDR2 G.skill memory with CL4 1.8

my problem is that i need to update my board bios so i can install the CPU , but now i can't adjust cpu
voltage any more, updating the bios removed the option from it,
i can only rise the multiplier to 16
let say it is good
now my pc is working at 16*200 = 3200mhz

i try to rise the fsb a bit say 210mhz or 220mhz
but no success , my system is not stable
i can rise the memory voltage by + 0.1 so the ram work at 1.9
but still no good
i remember when i have the 5600+ i was reaching 3250mhz by increasing the fsb to 225 without on stock voltage
this is my old G.kill rams
, know what happen
, and i almost forgot , do any one , know if i can overclock the cpu with a software, i cant use
AMD overdrive my chipset is 690G , nor i can use that Gigabyte easytune utility , which is disabled by the bios update to
any one have any idea , Thanks in Advance

I wouldn't recommend to overclock with software...Bios is better and always more stable.

What is your motherboard and bios version? There might be another bios version that supports your

processor but doesn't take the voltage option away...maybe the voltage changing option is still there but got

moved to a different place, like and advanced option page that you can access by clicking some key like F!) or

something. Some mobos have advanced options hidden on an advanced options page.

hi
thanks for replay , i almost get sad ,
will , mobo is GIGABYTE GA-MA69G-S3H
, i really did search if it move somewhere,
i also get into the hidden option by ctrl+f1
still not use
,
for just a simple question why i can increase the fsb for just at least 20 so it will operate at 440MHZ,
my previose rams was great i did it without increasing the voltage
, do have any idea ??

It probably won't boot because your CPU needs more voltage at that speed, and that's exactly your problem because you can't change it.

Hi.
I have a very similar problem on the same motherboard.
I had the latest BIOS (F8c).
with my 5000+ black edition the cpu voltage option was there.
now, same mboard, same bios, but 720 Phenom 2 cpu, voltage option disappeared.
how is this possible?

hello brainii1,
will i stopped researching about this.
somehow disappointed,
i am at 3.200, and cant go higher,
i even cant raise the memory freq even a 2 3 mhz
so i am at 16*200,
but an way ,
i still feel that the CPU at 3200 is very capable, and fast

I agree, the cpu is very fast indeed.
However I believe there should be a way.
I can change the voltage in Windows through EasyTune 5, but then any other change I do (e.g. multiplier) is ignored in Windows so this is still of no use at all.
I have posted on other forums too, maybe somebody knows a way around this.

I'll do my best.
Gigabyte replied with "remove CMOS battery and try again"...
I did and of course it didn't work..
I also tried a second 720 x3 cpu and still the option is not there so it's not the fault of the CPU.

this is exactly what I'm saying.
but the option was there for other CPU's.
buy a new motherboard?
hell no, what Gigabyte should do is to release a proper BIOS update that brings the option back.

Well, I found a way to increase the overclocking.
Since changing voltages works from within Windows, I booted at my max limit at stock voltage (on my pc this is 3.4ghz).
as soon as windows starts up, I use EasyTune to adjust voltage to 1.4v.

This got me an extra 200 mhz at least..

I'll use this untill gigabyte decides to release a new bios, if ever.
