Hello I am buying a amd 9950 my current motherboard supports am2+ but does not have 2600mhz frontside bus it is only 1000mhz fsb how much performance will I gain with buying a new motherboard?? For instance if I keep my current motherboard (1000mhz frontside bus) and a winrar file takes 5 minutes to unpack using the the 9950 how much less time will it take with the 2600mhz front side bus motherboard. Or how many fps on games will I gain with a new board?
Thank you for your time

Which motherboard do you have now?

One thing to note is that all AM2 motherboard has 1000Mhz HTT (or FSB if you prefer), therefore 9950 is definitely compatible with your board. Another thing to note is that majority of desktop applications do not use that much bandwidth, if at all. Therefore you see Intel's offering kicking the crap out of AMD's offering, even though Intel CPU has less bandwidth than AMD's.

------------------------------ Intel will not take the top spot, or probably the top 3 spot back for the forseeable future. Not even with 32nm and more cores will intel be able to beat Jaguar. - JennyH the AMDiot, Nov 2009

In this case, it appears yes, the bandwidth helps ...

It would seem that the 2600MHz HT of the AM2+ 790fx is a major contributory factor and (at least in the case of Intel), SSE4 instructions provide minimal boost (see e8400 v. e6850 on the full chart).

Hard to quantify with gaming ... when in doubt, it's the GPU :sol:
