I've recently attempted to build a new computer. When I turn it on everything powers up (case fans spin, psu fan, etc...) but the monitor shows nothing. I've replaced both the graphics card and the power supply and neither has worked.
what motherboard and cpu do you have because if you dont have a compatible BIOS/motherboard than it wont show any picture this problem happened to me a while ago
On the board there will be some exposed pins most likely labeled "clr cmos" or something like that. There should be a jumper there also that you can use to connect the pins. Every board is a bit different, so the best way is to read the manual that came with your board. It will tell you how.
Be sure to pay attention to if there are beeps or not, and if it beeps, how many. That helps a lot.
Also, try it with only one stick of ram, try each stick in different slots (ie stick 1 slot 1, stick 1 slot 2... stick 2 slot 1, stick 2 slot 2.....) that way you'll be able to rule out ram.
Good luck

UPDATE: I tried removing 3 sticks of ram and placing the remaining one in diffrent slots, i then replaced the rest in order and i get 1 beep when i boot it up. So I assume it isn't a RAM issue.
I haven't tried clearing my BIOs but i'm not really sure how. I looked though my motherboard manual it didn't say anything about clearing in it.
ideally we need to know what power supply you have and its wattage , what ram you are using , also did you install the cpu yourself? might not be seated properly. a number of reasons could be the culprit. also is the harddrive plugged in properly , supplyed with power and slaved or mastered properly , the list can be extensive , need to check everything methodically
I tried clearing the BIOS today by following the instructions in the online manual. I removed the battery and switched the pin cap things for about 30secs before placing them back again. This didn't really change anything. I did also place my CPU in by myself but I followed the instructions and I'm 99% sure that I did it right.
You mentioned it could be my harddrive, which is intresting because the first time i switched on my computer I was able to start the process of installing windows (vista). This being the first computer I've attemped to make I made the mistake of forgetting to plug in the SATA cables from my harddrives (500gig x2) to the mother board. It was only during the installation of vista when it prompted me to choose a harddrive to save it too that I realised I hadn't plugged it in. After plugging them in I faced the problem that i have now with no text, loading, etc... being displayed on my monitors. I assumed it was a graphics issue because one of the LEDS on the back of my old card (9800gx2) didn't light up so i replaced it with my current card, a 280 GTX.
I hope this new infomation is helpfull to any of you out there. And I'd like to thank all previous posters for your help so far.
