This is my first post at this forum though I spend a lot of time on Tom's hardware. Like many other I am building a new pc and looking for a little bit of advice.
Right now I have:
Sunbeam Silent Storm IC-SS-SVBK Black/Silver Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case
ZOTAC ZT-88SES2P-FSP GeForce 8800GTS (G92) 512MB(couldn't pass up the $115 price I got it for)
Antec TPQ-850 850W ATX12V / EPS12V Power Supply

Currently focusing on:
Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600
MASSCOOL 8WA741 92mm Ball CPU Cooler
2gb of ram most likely ddr2 800 to overclock but might just buy 1066.
The motherboard is where I am having the most trouble. The motherboard must be-able to SLI, good overclocker, hopefully good bios, at least dd2 800, at least 1066FSB but wouldn't mind 1333, must be socket 775 . As much as I like the xfx motherboards I feel that I can get better bang for the buck.
Currently I am looking at:
ASUS P5K EPU LGA 775 Intel P35 ATX Intel Motherboard

Let me know what you think or if you have any other ideas. Any help is greatly appreciated.

The motherboard must be-able to SLI

This will restrict you to nVidia chipsets. P35/P45/X38/X48 are all Intel chipsets. You will want to consider 680i/750i/780i/790i based boards.

Though frankly, I don't think that SLI-capable should be a requirement, unless you're really interested in bleeding edge tech.

the mobo you selected won't be able to sli and nvidia chipsets are usually horrible at overclocking.

Is SLI necessary then? I thought that there would performance boost from two cards. Maybe not?

SLI is scaling, and so unless you have a huge monitor you will get better performance from one good card than two lesser ones in SLI.
