Why would you need to upgrade your 8800GT, what games can't you play at that res? Neither a new nVidia or ATI card will work to its potential. Your 8800 GT is more than sufficient.

12x10 8800GT is more than enough if you want go higher just slap another 8800GT, you would have faster cards in your rig than both 260 and 4870

i want it for the upcoming games (like Legendary) and i wanna up my Crysis performance . . and in the future i'll get a new screen with higher res.

In that case, i recommend you to get 9800GX2, its much faster than both 4870 and G260, you could find one as low as 250$. And slap another one during christmas or something, when u have enough cash, by that time, GX2 may be as low as 200$.

For beautiful benchies of many current games: http://www.anandtech.com/video/sho [...] =3341&p=13

as you can see, GX2 knocked down even GTX280, its as fast as 4870X2 and its MUCH cheaper.

Depending on the make and model of your PSU, you might need to upgrade that as well if you buy either a 4870 or a GTX 260. They are both power hungry cards. I would recommend the 4870, as it seems to do better in many, but not all, games and gets along with the AMD hardware a little better. I have a 8800 GTS in an AMD computer and it doesn't preform as well as I expected.

As concrum said, getting another 8800 GT and doing the SLI route would probably be better, and most certainly cheaper, than getting a GTX 260. Of course, that's assuming that you can go SLI on your motherboard.

thats the problem my motherboard doesnt support SLi , i guess am going for the 4870 or the gx2 if there's one with suitable price

The 4870, GTX260, and 9800GX2 are all the same level card.
Don't anguish over differences in performance.

The 4870 is shorter, if you might have trouble with the others, which are 10.5" long.
The Nvidia cards might be easier to install because the drivers will not need to be cleaned off first.

If your PSU is a quality unit with 2 pci-e connectors, then any of the cards should be ok.

what about this one ? its really cheap and scored better than both of them

its a good card
but keep in mind that gtx280 will let its heat out inside the casing. 4870 outside. 4870 also has lower PSu requirement and will not have scaling problems. GX2 currently don have scaling problems either but remember what happened to 7900GX2 users when nvidia sudenly decide 2 update driver. this might happen agan considering GX2 is not in the spotlit and they want gtx2x0 to shine brighter then all the rest and giv more attention to gtx drivers.
but its ur call

We could say the same thing about 4870, ATI may give more attention to 4870X2 to get more attention.

anyway at that price GX2 is the best and futureproof enough for the next 18 months

ur a piece of art....
.....if a dual 4870 gives realyy good performance, y wont a single 4870 do the same......this is how it works: u optimiz driver for single gpu....then u go 2 next gpu. and not the other way round.......

plus u 4870 is the only card in that performance range so ati wont jus 4get bout it. whereas GX2 has 2 compete with gtx260 and nvidia would definately wat gtx260 to look better

a 4850 should be more than sufficient to suit your needs sentenced, at that resolution the 4850 should hardly break a sweat

and higher end cards at that tiny resolution will be cpu bottlenecked... get a 4850, i doubt you'll see a performance difference if you got a 4870 or a gtx260

and dont believe a word concrum says. he rides on nvidia. ON NVIDIA

yes the gx2 is a good card, but dual card solutions have never really been as good since the 4870x2 came out yesterday, and even that will probably underperform on your resolution

any card with 256-512mb of ram should do fine with your res, again, 4850 is your best choice imo

at low resolution sli usually don have good scaling cod devoloper think at low resolution, single card will be enof

what r u talking about ? how the hell would a 256 mb card play Crysis on high settings with 4X aa ?!

Reply to sentenced83

I would go with the gtx 260 55 nm, releases jan. 8th, really nice card. If you really do your homework the GX2 really falls off in some gaming scenarios especially in really high res. No good for future gaming!!
