Changing the bios first channel device

I just installed a new hard drive and I cannot get it to be recognized as the first channel device. It shows up as the thrid channel device. Where do i find how to change to the first channel device?

I have three questions for you.

1. You "installed a new hard drive". Did you set the BIOS Setup screens to Enable the port you attached it to? Did you set the port mode?

2. Did you do the preparation steps needed before Windows can use it? Those are Partitioning and formatting, sometimes collectively called Initializing. Until those are done, no OS (Windows or other) can "see" the new drive.

3. The terms "first channel" and "third channel" device are unfamiliar. Do you mean you want to be able to use the new drive as your boot device? Do you plan to install your Operating System on it?
