PS3 Hard Drive Install Question

i know its not a PC but i was wondering what steps would i have to take to take the 120gb out of a slim and install a larger hard drive (500gb), the actual swap i can do but compatability is what i dont know, do i have to install something for it to work, like software, does it need to be formatted a certin way and so on, any info would be great
