Hi,

I am going to be building a new system based around either an E8600 (3.33) or a Q9550/X3360 (2.83). The primary usage will be FSX. What will yeild better performance, the higher clock speed of the 8600 or the 4 cores in the 9550/3360?

Thanks,

Jeff

For FSX? Quad core for sure.

FSX is multi core optimized. The Q9550 will way outperform the E8600 by a huge significant margin.
Even many of the Phenoms will easily outperform the E8600 in FSX to give you an idea of the performance of a quad over a duo in FSX.
The Q9550 would be a very fine CPU for FSX.
