I have a athlon 64 3800 box running on a asus a8v deluxe mother board. Board ran great for three years . Lately I've been experiencing odd problems. USB port issues, Built in nic has failed and is rolling over to the 1394 net adapter. (When I disable the 1394 adapter, I lose internet connection) Not I've been getting intermittent blue screens.
Today I upgraded my Graphics card, and it was working, but I think if there is too much strain, the machine blue screens. Now the machine starts up and after the splash screen loads up, it immediately blue screens and reboots.
Is it possible that the motherboard is going bad and cannot handle the card anymore? Or would this be signs of a failing power supply. I have a 800W psu: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6817702004
So it should be able to handle it. But I'm told its a 4 tier PSU....
I would get another socket 939 board now if you want to keep the cpu and ddr memory. Computer geeks has some left. No point in getting another a8v; if you find one it will cost too much. Or do what I did earlier this year: get a dirt cheap pc and upgrade the power supply and video. I got mine for $199 at Fry's; should be similar deals on black friday if you live the usa.
