long story short....a question

my motherboard fan powers up just as the power supply is turned on without even turning on the switch at the front....is that something bad?

long story....

my motherboard blew
got one from a friend
his motherboard has a power issue where it sucks the cmos battery dry
so it never restarts...
we stuck 2 penlight batteries together(AA batteries) and soldered it to the board..he said that used to work when he used the board...
now the motherboard is powering up...well the fan and the itty bitty fan is....but the Dbracket(yay msi) gives 4 lights red...which means processor not working or failed to post....
is something wrong with my processor?
