All this extreme overclocking being done by Overshocked and company has got me all tweaky again. So I decided to try some of my own Air Cooled bench runs with my Q6600.

This is what i got so far, aiming to crack 16k.

Almost got it! I overclocked my 8800GTS 512MB a bit more to get this. A little more on the CPU should do it.

Your 8800GTS is a BIG limitation. At any rate, good job in the CPU OCing.

4.16Ghz on a Q6600!!?!?!?!??/?!!! That's insane! What cooling on CPU? Air????

And welcome back! Long time no see! Me thinks it's time we have another OCing contest :D

Nah i wish is was 4.12ghz. 3DMark06 seems to have a problem recognizing clock speeds for the q6600 if it isn't using the stock 9x multiplier.

This is all done with Air, a Sunbeam Tuniq Tower using AS5.

Another OC contest might be fun :)

Anywho here is the final result :)

Thank you Shadow, Videl and OvrClkr, I appreciate it :)

I could certainly feel the GPU limiting the system. 200mhz for a handful of points. I got most of my goal by upping the GPU like 20mhz across all options. I wonder if it's about time I upgrade the sucker...

It's odd too, pretty much any FSB i try with the 9x multiplier refuses to boot. Anything 8x and this 780i just ate it up. Didn't even sneeze at 1900FSB. I'm quite impressed with it.

Mine's from EVGA, ordered it the same day NCIX got some. Came with a copy of Crysis too :)

I've been very pleased with the performance of this card. I'm probably goin' to wait to see how SC2 plays on it before deciding to spend money to upgrade. Although i want to do it now, lol. I will probably end up with a 2nd Gen DX11 card, we'll see.

For people who can unlock their 550 but have stability issues, I found an interesting thread on how to make your 550 work as an X3 (tri-core)

Thanks bro.

Nice overclocking by the way. Wanna put it under the ice?

I would but i don't have the money to replace anything if i kill it. Plus i've just finished repairing it, poor thing was inactive a total of 1.5 months. Stupid piece of crap Silverstone PSU.

On that note i've had my fill of tinkering for a bit. Thanks for the inspiration :) I will definitely post some pics when i eventually get a new GPU.

Wow man thats a real good result. If you had a bit faster video card you would be doing 20K+, but good job man. ;)

Thanks :sol:

Yeah, i've been tempted by the GTX275 more then once. NCIX.com has been putting them on sale frequently, and i've almost bought it a couple times, lol. I just have to keep reminding myself i don't need it, all my games run smooth on max or near max settings.

If i wasn't buying a new MTB Frame soon I probably would have upgraded my PC already :) But i can't take riding a hardtail frame anymore, my joints hurt...lol. I've had the same one for over 5 years, a Oryx DD 66. Looking to get a new full suspension, particularly a Banshee Scream V2 if that means anything to anyone on here :)

@OP:If your's card is from EVGA can't you use their StepUp program? (IIRC XFX also has some thing like this?).

The Step-Up program is only applicable until you've had your card 3 months. Unless they've changed it recently. I've had my card over 2 years, i doubt i'd be able to...although it would be cool.

EVGA gives you 90 days from the date of purchase to trade up...

BFG gives you 100 days from the date of purchase to trade up...

+1. I traded with BFG and it was ok. 9800GTX+ for a GTX285
