GZ files

Hello,
i just downloaded a file from sourceforge.com in the form of a GZ file. i`m very much a beginner, do these filetypes open easily

These normally denote gzip compressed files. Windows XP can't handle them natively but if you look at this link you'll find a number of utilities that can.
