You should make sure that the Power Supply Unit on the Dell does indeed support 4870. There are two things you need to check:
1. Wattage: Is the PSU strong enough to support a high performance graphics card?
Usually you needs to have at least 400~500W to support 4870. Unfortunately usually Dell's PSU only goes up to 350W.
2. Cables: Does the PSU have the necessary cables for 4870? 4870 requires 1 6-pin and 1 8-pin external power connector. Normally speaking Dell does not support such cables.

Check newegg.com. Yesterday, they had a 9600gs mid range video card for $50 after $50 rebate with free shipping. You can open the dell and look at the loose unused ps cables. Or you can go for a cheaper video card that doesn't require any ps cable connection.

Your power supply unit should contain 2 6-pin power connector.
6-pin connector:
To be honest if I were you, I would worry about the wattage rating first. Both 6-pin connectors can be converted from two molex connectors.
EDIT: 4870 only needs 2 6-pin connectors as opposed to 1 6-pin and 1 8-pin. Sorry for the confusion.

I looked at the specification of that particular model. The power supply is indeed 350 watts.
"350 W (for computers with Intel® Core™ 2 Quad processor)".
Even a ATI HD4850 requires a 450 watt power supply. Here is one see the requirements.

http://www.sapphiretech.com/us/pro [...] =253&grp=3 It seems like the OP is very limited on a GPU card.
