I recently bought new parts. Processor E8400 and a Gigabyte GA-EP45-DSL3. When I put the processor in and close the cover it doesn't fully go down. It's held back by the processor. I wanted to push it down further by closing the lever but it seems I'll mess the pins up or something. Is this supposed to be normal or is something wrong here?

Did you remove the black plastic covering the pins ? Poster above said is it in correctly....... two slots on processor lining up with the two "keys" on the board ?

And if the lever is 4/5 of the way down, you may have to put a little effort into it.

yea the cpu from what i can remember can ONLY go into the socket one way cuz it is keyed with notches and what not, one u aligned the notches it just "falls" onto the pins

as long as you have aligned those notches, you should be able to clamp it down

take a look here

see the little notch on the top left?

and this

from the side view, you can see the notches on the left and right

once u align it, the cpu will fall into place and you can clamp it down, the clamp requires some force
