How to re-install <Windows root>\system32\ntoskrnl exe

Hello, does this actually work? My computer is 4 years old and the disk drive is broke. However, today when I tried to switch it on, I am instructed to re-install
<Windows root>\system32\ntoskrnl.exe, could I do this via a memory key, and if so, how?

Follow the directions posted in this forum, fourth post from the top. Do a REPAIR install of windows xp.
