I'm going to buy a Radeon HD 4850, and I'm wondering if i should bother spending extra money on a 1Gb card vs. a 512Mb card. Does the extra memory give it any better performance?

Normally, there's no difference. 1gb ram helps on very high resolutions, at a point where typical lcd monitors cannot handle.
