Hello, I hope this is the right forum for this question.

I just built a new system for FSX.

EVGA X58 MB
I7 920 -> OC'ed to 3.8ghz
6GB DDR3 -> Lowered freq. so it runs at near 1066 with the OC
1 GTX 275 Extreme

The issue is I have poor FPS in FSX. Why? I tried OCing the GTX some and playing with that.. but that resulted in no change in the FPS which tells me the card is not at it's limit, nor the cause of the low FPS.

Playing with the processor OC, the stock 2.8ghz and the OC to 3.8 had very little effect on the framerate. Slightly higher with the 3.8. Is there anything else I can change to get better FPS? is it the GTX and i'm just not seeing it? should I SLI or would that be a waste of money?

What is your FPS and what resolution/settings are you playing?

After the processor reaches about 3.2 there is almost no gain in FPS. The Vid card is likely the cause of the trouble... Also, depending what the frames are, maybe there is no trouble.

yeah no use saying "I got FPS issues" without giving us the FPS issues, but DONT turn everything up full, even your new riug will choke of FSX, turn of lightning bloom and the draw distance for the weather, makes a massive difference on my coputer

It just so happens that FSX is my favorite sim and it likes a single 8800 GTS g92, thou a 9800 GTX+ and /or a 260 might work as well. It likes Intel and nVida over AMD and ATI. It will play on either thou best on what I said.

This sim likes high clocks with multiple cores and a high end GPU will kill your FPS as well as SLI or Xfire.

If you have an older GPU like a 7800 or better then try it and see if that makes any difference.

Good Luck :)

I found the problem, it was more FSX. once I did a few tweaks in the FSX CFG such as unlimiting the FPS control and adjusting the GPU memory my FPS jumped drastically between 30-80fps depending on area. So I definitely recommend researching FSX tweaks to check what can be done to help FPS.
