I have an old GA-K8NE ( Nforce4 socket 754 ) with Sempron CPU.
PC was running well until I decided to upgrade RAM.
Before, I had 512MB PQI DDR400 and now I've added Kingmax 512MB DDR400.
XP booted OK, but applications started crashing.
I've run memtest and got a lot of errors. I've tried switching ram's but no change.
PC runs well if I put only 1 ram - pqi or kingmax. It reports errors only if I put both ram's.
Both rams are DDR400. I don't know if difference in CL,CAs etc. can cause this behaviour.
Kingmax is: 3-4-4,CL=3 , singleside chips
PQI is just: CL 2.5 , no other data. doubleside chips
PQI ram is labeled "MDAD-421HA"

Not a good idea to mix and match RAM. I would suggest matching modules exactly when upgrading.
DDR ram is meant to be installed in matching pairs.

Yipes! A matched pair of G.SKILL 1GB (2 x 512MB) 184-Pin DDR SDRAM DDR 400 (PC 3200) Dual Channel sticks is only $27 @ NE - is it really worth an hour or two of possibly unsuccessful fiddling? :heink:
