Hello!

One quick question .... is this PSU enough for 4870x2??

Sistem:

E6600 2.4Ghz(3,1)

2x1 Gigs 800Mhz CL5

Raptor 10 000

Like you see ... one small sistem.

Monitor Samsung 24 TFT 1920x1200

Thank you all !!!!

No it will not be enough. 650w is the recommended power supply and with your system I would not at all recommend it.

Looking at these figures, the entire system with the 4870X2 under load draws 444W from the wall socket. So if the PSU is 80% efficient, the entire system is really only drawing 355.2W. From this, you can conclude that a solid 500W PSU might do.

However, you might want to check the 12v rails to make sure you won't be overloading them.

Only the G280 and the 4870x2, though youre still running hard with either the 4870 or the G260
August 20, 2008 7:04:54 PM

What you are saying is that 500watt is not enough for G260?

No, itll be fine. I thought you werwe using a quad, but youre not. You have plenty of headroom

He's not Overclocking, so he should be *fine*, but you would need a better one if you were, and you will be bottlenecked unless you get that proc. to at least 3.0Ghz, so why don't you just pony up the money to get a new one ?

He has it at 3.1GHz, least that's the number in the () beside the 2.4GHz. That cpu should be fine, even if it does bottleneck the videocard from getting 200fps. I mean 150fps is still playable right?

E6600 OC to 3,1 Ghz
But I think that G260 is too weak for the future ... playing at 1920x1200... or?

If the price range ain't too big for that upgrade, then play it safe. Get a 700w or higher PSU. That would leave room for some other things u might want to plug in.

Esop!

While it's your choice and decision to buy what you want, let me tell you this: You buy today's video card to play today's video games. You should not buy into the scheme of "future-proofing", since by the time the future comes, there will be video cards that surpasses the 4870X2 for $200. If you feel that the 4870X2 is worthy, by all means, get it. Playing at a res of 1920x1200 is no easy feat, but that depends on the game.

I noticed when I put in my 4870 X2 my PC P&C 750w's fan got a little louder, though it is plenty for my system. I would recommend atleast a 600w for that thing.

Enermax is normally a high quality PSU. If it does what it's rated for, I'm sure it'll be fine. There might be some rail balancing to do if there's multiple 12V rails to make sure none of them gets overloaded though.

Thank you all guys!
I guess I need new PSU + X2 GPU !!!

I did this all yesterday on the psu calculator, and it showed with his current system and cpu oceed at 3.1, 263 watts. Maybe I missed something in his setup, but the oc on his cpu was 84 watts. Im thinking with a 260 hed be ok

1. Sapphire HD4870 - 223 euro
2. EVGA GTX260 - 243 euro

Dilema?

Enermax are decent psus. Some people dont like the older models, not because they arent reliable, but a lil noisy and not as energy efficient

4870. Theres supposedly an upgraded 260 coming out in a month, and itll be better. Right now? The 4870 is a tad better overall. But, when it shines, it really shines. In some games, itll outperform a 280. That simply cant be said for a 260. Plus, the extra 20 pounds will let you go out n buy some beer

Some nice words from you to read.
What about upgraded 260???
Any links?

Im not sure this is correct. There may be a card coming, but opening it up like theyve said could cause other problems, making it imbalanced. My expertese in this isnt that good, and I refer to Ape or someone more knowledgeable than I. But this may be just a 55nm G260, and theyve somehow skewed whats really going to happen. It sounds nice, but will it work? Anyone seen a purplish looking Ape running wild round here?

Maybe I should wait?
At least prices drops ....
