hi, i was just wondering what things i need to take into account if i am to crossfire these 2 cards?

i'm quite happy with my 3870 to an extent but i was messing around with forcing AA + AF to max in games and was getting big slowdown. especially with 24 samples of AF so i thought i'd try crossfire.

i can get a 3850 for half the price of a 3870 and the reviews ive read show that there's not the greatest difference between crossfiring both set ups and would be a decent upgrade for me. i'm gonna build a new pc in the not too distant future when nehalem are out so i dont wnt to pay too much on this pc now.

being a noob to crossfire i want to know i few things!

1. what, if any, is the effect of the 2 different clock speeds working together? will the 3870 be downclocked to the 3850 settings?

2. what gains will i get with 8x + 8x?

3. will my cpu be a bottleneck at 1680/1050 @2.8ghz dual core

4. when installing, do i uninstall the drivers i have on the 3870 then install 1 set of drivers for both or not? or what?

Yes, the 3870 will perform as if it is a 3850 and there will be no problems with X8 + X8. Also your CPU shouldn't bottleneck this setup. As to the driver thing, I have no idea and I would recommend simply contacting ATI's support center and ask them.
