i my friend recently bought a Intel p45 board to replace his evga n-force 680i 122-ck-nf68-t1. because its very unstable with a quad core. and he just rma'd it and got a new one and its still new in the box.

so i looked at this http://www.evga.com/products/pdf/122-CK-NF68-T1.pdf and saw i can put my pd 940 cpu in it and my pc553 ram and i can get a better overclock because its not limited to only a 10% overclock like my intel board

then when i gain more funds i can upgrade to a e8500 cpu and 1066mhz ram and oc the f*ck out of it.

is this an upgrade i should do??

right now here is my specs

pd940 oc'ed 3.55
ati 4850
soundblaster xfi platnium
2 gig pc533 ram
2 sata 3.0 250gb hardrives
550 watt powersupply will upgrade soon

i will aso be buying this baby

yeah its an intel 955xbk

im hoping to a 4ghz oc with the change in motherboard i saw that people online are claiming they can get it to 4.2ghz

I dont think youll get much more performance out of it at 4ghz compared to 3.5ghz you currently have it at.

How much is the 680i costing you, because you could quite easily pickup a cheap P35 or P45 board with intel CPU and overclock it with heaps better results then a 680i board with an old cpu

im paying $50. the board was one of the $250 nforce board last december. and plus its sitting new in the box and it still has a warrenty on it

ill prolly be upgrading my cpu and ram in a month

do you think ill be getting better oc from a board around $100

680i's definetly had there issues, and i hate to inherit the same problems your friend was having with a new board. Personally i would look at a P35 or 45 board as they are fairly cheap and offer great stability. Unless you want SLI of course

Yeah i have thought of that but I’m feeling pretty good about the 680i. i know they are not as stable as a intel but this one is new in box and has a warranty. plus with the updated bios and drivers.

if i was getting a quad core i would def not do it because it to unstable.
i prolly will only keep this set up for a year then switch to a quad core Nehalem next fall

i am willing to take the challenge

i got my antec 900 case today its mad sick but
it does scream mod. me and my friend are going to start of painting the inside a black. I’m still trying to figure out if it should be flat or a glossy black

im also thinking of painting a logo on the side in a dark red but i don’t know what I should do yet. do you have any ideas
