Caller gets answering message and leaves message, i get nothing

Hello,
Caller leaves message at prompt but I get nothing. Sometimes they do not get any message prompt. Is my internet security a problem?

Depends on the answering machine. Is your computer the answering machine?

If the computer is not the answering machine, and the computer accesses the internet on a dial-up line shared with the answering machine, set computer to never answer an incoming call.
