Is my CPU overclocked?

Hey guys, this is about as newb as it gets. I ordered a Cyberpower desktop and payed 100 to have the i7 920 overclocked by 20%.

I don't know how to tell if they actually did this. Everywhere I can see the processor listed on the computer it says Intel Core i7 CPU 920 @ 2.67GHz

If it was actually overclocked wouldn't it say something like CPU 920 @ 3.20??

Is there a way to test it or did I just get screwed out of 100 bucks?

Thanks

Thanks a lot, but I am still a bit confused. In CPU-Z should I be looking for the Clock speed?

It gives these values:

specification: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7 CPU 920 @ 2.67GHz (is this just to say what the product is, or is it actually running at this speed)

Core speed: 1920.0 MHz
Multiplier: x 12.0
Bus Speed: 160.0 MHz
QPI Link: 3840.1 MHz

Is there something I am missing? Does this mean it is just running at 2.67?

160x12 certainly equals 1.92GHz. It looks like the clock has been adjusted up from 133 to 160, but the multiplier has gone down. It should be 20, or 160x20=3.2GHz.

Go back into your BIOS and change the multiplier to 20, unless you want to give supplier a call first.

your cpu is overclocked, but intel's speed step is reducing the clock speed to save power because your system is idle. load it up with prime 95 or something and you will see the processor speed jump to 3.19ish GHz... you didn't get screwed. hope that helps.

He sort of did get screwed, if you pay for an overclock, why would you have speed step enabled?

To save power. My C2D E8400 has it on all the time @ 4.0 gHz and the only disadvantage I've seen is that it required a slight boost in voltage: a non-issue for me as I spend 80% of my time doing non strenuous tasks.

It's almost as bad as geek squad chargign 100 dollars for a 512 mb ram upgrade.

Because it saves power?

I have speedstep on - there's no real reason not to, unless it hurts stability.

Pathetic JUST PATHETIC!!

To original poster: When you know about this site(tom's) why would you buy from Cyberpower in the first place? AND THEN ask them to overclock 20% for 100 bucks. When we at toms, the community will help you build your own computer and help you overclock at no cost, but just time at reading. Maybe you just have lots of money to spare, but that's still stupid wasting money.

Lol i just went to cyberpower website now to look at their noob computers. They using i7 920 with a 9500 GTS, so funny. a computer that's 779 dollars with no O.S.
they post a picture of the computer with keyboard and mouse. the mouse in the picture is a razer mouse. but in the specs its just a noob mouse. umm fraud? someone wanna sue them for false advertising. it's possible to sue them to get a million dollars for fraud
