first question is: do you have a case in mind or do you have one on hand?

Anyway. The majority of your build looks great. I do have a few suggestions.

For the same price you have get this 4850 card which yields better performance.

8 gigs of memory is nice, but it's overkill. Start off with 4 and see if you need more later. Good choice BTW.

Your current build will, i think, run close 600w (that is, if your going to start of in CF). However your thinking about running three of these cards, which up the power a bit. This Corsair PSU should give you all the power you need and some room to OC.

I'm not a pro like some of the other guys around here, but this is just my Two Cents :D

wo MOBO has a high price tag lol, im an ASUS man myself and the best Xfire MOBO from them is like £150.

if you want to save some money, buy some Heatpipe memory at a lower speed and just over clock it.

then with money ya save add bit more to your GPU and get an ATI 4870. course youd have to swap your motherboard (MOBO) for an Crossfire one

Always glad to help :D but seriously take a look at those 4850's. I've been watching the reviews on that series of cards very carefully. And i can say that none of manufacturers are seeing poor returns. Yes there will be a few that don't pass, but give ATi another chance.

Personally i have been using Nvidia's stuff for the past few years and with my next build, which will be very soon, i will have an ATi card. No questions about it. I have a friend that has been running with ATi for as long as i have been running Nvidia and he will not be happy when he finds that my new system is running better than his new system. By the way hes jumping ship on ATi. sad day. He's leaving just as his favorite company is getting good. his loss i guess. And hes under the impression that SLi scales better than Xfire. IDK, is this true?

the reason i also prefer the nvidia is that i havn't found any xfire 3 way motherboards for video cards. With the 3 way system on this board. I can get outdated cards too run in sync and get more power out of them without having to pay through the nose for the newest things on the market.

and from some recent reading on my part, I just found that the 8800 gt is not compatible with tri sli. Which meens getting these boards and cards are point less if i can't use 3 when I could get a better board for less that only uses two. And to ghoul... I will take ur challenge and give ati another chance. I'll post the updated list of what i hope to build with her in a minute.

No i do not think you will need to switch to AMD to run ATi cards. But i don't know if there any compatibility issues running ATi cards on Nvidia chip sets. However i do think most people, if they run Intel and have ATi cards, run on Intels chip sets. Personally i have never used Intels chip sets so the other guys in the forum would be the ones to ask. :)

From doing some browsing on newegg, it seems that its nvidia to intel and amd to ati. I may be mistaken but I'm running amd right now and I'm sure going with below will be fine. P.S. I fear running one companies cards on another companies chipsets because of the possibility of a company making their chipsets not allow their rivals cards to run on them. This may just be a psychotic part of me talking but its never bad to be cautious.
