In trying to solve another issue on my Windows XP PC, I created a new hardware profile and selected "do not proceed with startup until profile is selected" as the option for when I turn on the computer. It seems, however, when I turn on the computer now, the black screen asking which hardware profile to proceed with is frozen. I cannot advance passed that black screen as the keyboard and mouse do not work. I cannot select any option on that screen. How can I fix this? At this point I would just like the computer back!

Thanks.

Start in Safe Mode, no command prompt, no networking, just Safe Mode.

To start in safe mode, peck the F8 key every second during startup until the choice screen appears.

Just as safe mode is about to appear, there will be a box that shows up asking you if you want to perform a system restore point rollback. Do it. Choose a date in bold that is from a time before you made that change.
