hey guys I am trying to install windows 7 on my dell insperon 1720 but the DVD drive doesn't work so I am using a USB stick (4GB) I am trying to install windows XP (there is no OS on it right now) the system came with Vista (lol) I made a bootable copy of the xp disk on the USB drive but when I am at the blue screen after it loads some of the installer things I get a error

STOP: 0x0000007E (0xc0000005,0xF748E0BF,0xF78DA208,0xF78D9F0

pci.sys - Adress F748E0BD base at F7487000, DateStamp 3b7d855c

I have looked up the error on MS http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;330182 but I have 120 GB HDD (formatted) 2 GB of working Ram etc... What could be my problem?

your problem is probably caused by the SATA controller which is not supported by XP by default.

you need to find the XP drivers for the controller and slipstream it into your XP version
