i already have a P45 mobo and 9800GT
But I want to know which CPU can bring the best performance??

Now I can choose from DUAL-CORE Pentium and Core 2 Duo.

Pentium XE 965:
The best CPU in Pentium series, and it's been a long history^_^
@3.8GHZ!!! x 2CPUs
@2MB L2 cache x 2(impressive!!!)
@I have been told about it's strong over-clocking ability.

I am up to make up my mind, but i heard that Core 2 Duo is 40%better and 40%efficent than Dual Pentiums.

Also, someone just told me that LOWEST C2D is EVEN BETTER than HIGHEST Pentium XE x2!!!! and they said that there
has been many evidence of that!!

Core 2 Duo E4300:
according to the market, low-end C2D E4300 is much more cheaper, so regularly it's much less efficient than XE 965.
@1.8GHZ X2 only
@ONLY SINGLE 2mb L2.....

Frankly I'm a rookie gamer and also no experience in buying gaming pc....
So sincerely i wish some one can give me an advice? Thanks!

Depending on your budget, have a look at the E5200, E7200 or E8400/8500, all are great dual core CPUs for the price.

Forget the E4300, it was good last year but its outdated now.

Will my budget is not that price, whether $99 or $199 of the price, it is, the Performance.

My view is somehow old-fashioned, that is "Clock Rate Rules the CPU World"........

So it seems that highest GHz means highest Performance.

Now, thanks for runswindows95 who give me Performance Chart, and everyone who give a Revolution of my CPU strargy..^_^

Highest Ghz doesnt necessarily mean highest performance. Its the architecture that means the best performance and usually along with highest Ghz combined.

A Pentium D 940 3.2ghz cpu is slower than the newer E2180 2.0ghz cpu especially when overclocked. Its due to the core 2 duos superior architecture mainly combined with its superior overclockability.

You never gave a budget so we are blindly giving you advice on half the info needed to make a good suggestion so if you havent already made a purchase then post your budget...

If you really don't have a budget, get the e8600. I'd say it's the best dual core on the market right now and can overclock like crazy.

I am trying to pick a CPU as well. Would you pick the e8600 over one of the quad core like Q9400?

Thats a different poster and he/she was simply saying they were trying to pick a cpu too. You read that the wrong way... :pt1cable:
